Where
to eat and other activities around Bailey
while at WYSIWYG Cabin...
One
of the fun things about this area is you really are "out
of town!" Bailey is sort of a "bedroom" community
to Denver since it's only 45 minutes away. A lot of folks
have mountain homes here or homes they visit on the weekend.
It's not an Evergreen or Vail by any means...
You
actually get to Bailey by going back to I-285S and turning
right. Bailey is a short beautiful 2 mile drive west from
the top of Crow Hill to the bottom. In Bailey you'll find
good restaurants with great mountain cooking, a gas station,
the Country Store (really, that's the name, and they have
great fresh cut to order meats), a Post Office, Moore Hardware,
a laundry mat, a liquor store, and of course an attorney's
office!

Restaurants:
There
are several, each with their own ambiance, etc. We have
eaten at Platte Canyon Grill, Chinese Village, CutThroat
Cafe, The Buck Snort and the Twin Spruce. All are good
and worth the trip!
The
Platte Canyon Grill has been around a
while and good food any time of the day. We love the atmosphere.
You sit down to eat with all the very kind mountain folk
and all of a sudden you realize you are listening to classical
music!
If
you like Chinese, you'll find great food at the Chinese
Village. Steve, an Asian American, serves everyone
and loves to chat with you. Great food and we always end
up taking some back to the cabin with us for another meal.
CutThroat
Cafe is great for American cuisine. It is located
just up the hill behind the Chinese Village. A nice quaint
atmosphere with good food for any appetite. A trout fishing
theme, but not a fish dish to be found on the menu.
David's
favorite, The Buck Snort, is just
6 miles south of 285. Turn south at Elk Creek Dr. at
Shafer's Crossing. Great burgers, BBQ, mountain atmosphere!
You go to try this one out!
The
Twin Spruce Bar & Grill has also become
a favorite. It is located a few minutes on down I-285S in
Grant, Colorado, on the left (south) side of I-285S. We
love the evening atmosphere there. Great mountain cuisine
and famous for their "tacorado" dish. This place
fits like a warm glove in winter.
Area
Activities:
Hiking:
You are only minutes from great hiking trail heads in the
Pike National Forest from WYISWYG. You'll
see those signs as you drive to the cabin. We have hiked the
Rosalie
Trail, the Tanglewood
Trail and the Meridian
Trail, all close to the cabin. MORE

Fishing:
If you are a fisherman there is no doubt that you have heard
of South Park. Even back in the old days, South Park fishing
and hunting had reached the ears of people in distant lands.
They came from as far away as England and Ireland to enjoy
the plentiful bounty of the Park. South Park is the name and
fishing is the game. MORE about

Skiing:
You are 1.5 hours from Breckenridge Ski Resort. Take I-285W
to Fairplay, then Hwy. 9 through Hoosier Pass to Breckenridge.
You are also only 2 hours from Winter Park. Take I-285W East
toward Denver to Conifer, turn right there to Evergreen to
I-70 and follow a map from there. MORE

Whitewater
Rafting: We enjoy River
Runners. Their Fisherman's Bridge office is located
on the banks of the Arkansas River just 5 miles south of Buena
Vista on US Hwy 285. With gentle waters, awesome scenery and
exciting rapids this section of river offers something for
people of all ages and abilities. MORE

Driving:
There is a book at WYSIWYG which maps out many wonderful day
drives through the mountains. We've been on about 4 of them
and just had a great time. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the
day!
Well,
so there you have it. A bit of life at WYSIWYG. We don't do
the city thing when we are here. We do walks, drives in the
mountains, fish, hike, read, and basically just sit by a fire
and look out at the mountains. It's truly a place to getaway
and relax with yourself of loved ones.
If
you find something wonderful to do and see while here, please
email us so we can add it to the list above...
